Casey used to have a play date every afternoon at four with the cat next door. Both cats would wait at their doors, eagerly anticipating their daily get-together. Casey was smaller than his neighbor and usually pretty submissive around other animals. But every once in a while, he apparently felt the need to prove that he was a worthy sparring partner. He'd puff himself up, arch his back, and prance toward her in his very best Halloween-cat pose.

It might have looked intimidating if we hadn't known Casey.
